‘Dirt’ feels like getting smacked in the face at your first gig and finally feeling alive. That’s exactly the kind of raw, visceral energy that local punk band Head Dent brings to every performance.

I was lucky enough to catch them supporting Death Lens at The Underground in Hanley. After that gig, I walked out with a ripped shirt, a fresh perspective on the local music scene, and an absolutely urgent need for a kebab. Head Dent stole the night with the liveliest crowd response, beating out the other two acts with sheer hometown enthusiasm—locals supporting locals with full force.

No moment hit harder than their explosive performance of ‘Dirt’, a track all about expression and self-acceptance, delivered like an adrenaline shot to the chest. With its frantic guitar riffs, thunderous drums, and a perfectly gravelled vocal performance from frontman Luke Mansfield, the track captures a kind of beautiful chaos—the frustration and confusion of growing up, of trying to find a place in a world demanding direction and conformity.

The chorus is carried by a chunky bassline and roaring power chords, pulsing with a restless momentum that keeps your heart racing. It’s the sound of being lost in a mosh pit, screaming your lungs out, pouring your rage into the noise.

Dirt’ is the lead single off Head Dent’s latest EP, The Dent—a whirlwind of aggressive, thoughtful, and gloriously noisy tracks that are all worth a listen. The band is no stranger to The Underground, so keep an eye out and try to catch them live. You won’t regret it.
